(Movie) The Golden Compass

Cast: Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards, Eva Green, Clare Higgins, Ian McShane

Plot Outline: In a parallel universe, young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization.

First of all I find this movie unsuitable for children…erm…say under eight, not because of the call to boycott the movie by some religious groups but because of the slow build up.  Younger children or should I say toddlers with their relatively short attention span will not be able sit quietly through it. The special effects were good but I felt that somehow it was not easy to identify with the characters at say an emotional level.  Mainly due to high usage of CGI and maybe given the fact that there is quite a lot to be absorbed whilst the characters seem to be hurried along.  Overall I would say the movie is still good, in the sense that the tale is refreshingly new.
