Movie – Babylon A.D.

Starring: Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh, Melanie Thierry, Lambert Wilson, Mark Strong, Jerome Le Banner, Charlotte Rampling, Gérard Depardieu

Director: Mathieu Kassovitz

This might have been a really good sci-fi movie had it not been watered down to a 90 minute ‘Guess What It All Means’ storyline.  Too many questions are left unanswered in the movie, and then there is the ‘Yeah right….like that could/would happen’.  The movie overall still has entertainment value even though the stylishly done action sequences which is adequately paced, tends to be a little choppy!

Apart from all of that, the two burning questions I have is WHY? did Gerard Depardieu allow himself to be chosen for this tiny and lousy role to make a comeback appearance. A role which could be played by just about anybody and after a long absence? And WHY? was Michelle Yeoh cast as Sister Rebeka? A Chinese kungfu fighting nun of sorts in Eastern Europe, and it appears the ONLY ‘Chinese’ ( or rather mongolian) in the whole movie.

I actually went to the watch the movie because of Vin Diesel and though he was not disappointing in his role, it wasn’t one of his best performances either.  Melanie Thierry to me was the only one that really shone in the movie, her performance was a blended mix of Michelle Pfeiffer and Milla Jovovich!

P.S. Someone actually placed practically the whole storyline on Wiki….Yowza!
