A Letter To My Soulmate

Mere words cannot possibly describe the awesome feelings I possess for you. So I have found while writing this letter. What we have is what most people spend a lifetime searching for.

And yet like the phoenix, our kindred spirits have to be reborn from the flames which consumes it from time to time. For is it not true we hurt the ones we love the most?

Your joys are my joys, your sorrows are my sorrows as mine are in yours. My heart weeps when it cannot fill the void left behind from a portion ripped away by an unkind word, a harsh tone or an unspoken hurt.

Only your love can console my heart and fill the void. And though we have a bond that ties us together, we cannot grow in each other’s shadow. So let there be a space between us where we can grow strong side by side.

And with time and age we will seek solace in the warmth of our companionship.

Valentine’s Day

Did you even know that Valentines actually came about after a Priest ( later known as St Valentine ) suffered martyrdom as a result of helping Christian martyrs and secretly marrying couples in love against the pagan laws of the Roman Emperor Claudius II. You see Claudius wanted more men as soldiers instead of having them marry and later choosing not to serve. Hence as punishment, Priest Valentine was condemned to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off on Feb 14 about the year 270.

So have you ever wondered why Valentine’s day is celebrated? Certainly not in memory of St Valentine! Perhaps it has been commercialized for the idiots that need to schedule in a day so that they can show someone that they truly love and care. Then after which they would be free for the rest of the year (except for the birthday and christmas), to concentrate solely on their work and friends. Or simply for young lovers to gather their courage to declare their love on that day.I for one, believe that any day can be Valentine’s, and not just one day. I am certainly NO Don Juan DeMarco, but I would buy a gift every now and then. Sometimes practical gifts, whilst other times just because I know she loves or might love them. Of course I do so within my means, and spread across the year. The gifts are just my way of saying, “You are in my thoughts and in my heart.”

Saying I Love You

Do you love me as I love you?
A question which need not be asked..
If Love’s presence is in us both..
The answer is found let doubts pass!

Can one ever tire of hearing it? I suppose if it is said too often and is also often used as a way of saying sorry then over time it loses it’s value. I am not saying that we should not say it, because there are those who do not say it enough. I just feel that love has to be shown and felt daily by the little things we do for one another, the little kindness, the little thoughtfulness, the little messages we send. Then from time to time, when the simple “I Love You” is uttered, the sweetest reply can then be “I know, and I Love You Too..if not more”

Earth Angels

Throughout my life so far, I have found that there are earth angels amongst us that have helped me through the difficult phases of my life. These angels come in many forms, family, close friends, teachers, colleagues etc. They have showered me with their love and care and I am eternally grateful. Furthermore I am fortunate enough to say that the list is a long one, however with no order of merit I would like to give special mention to a few by typing out their names….Mom & Dad, Geraldine, John Low, Gemma, Liesl, Karissa, Luke, Ms.Tong, Iskandar, Alfred, Sharin, KAJ, Sister Rosa, Frances, Nasruddin, Gerard M.

Teacher Will You Remember? ( 1986 )

Written for the school magazine as a fare well and thank you to our teachers.

Teacher will you remember the student
who made you sigh?
Cause there will come a day when
I will have to say goodbye.
I’ll never forget you were always
there to lend a helping hand,
And when we part, only sweet memories
remain as our best friend.

Teacher will you remember the joy
and sorrows shared together?
Your trying to mould my character
being gentle as a feather.
Teacher you have lived up to your name,
in time I’ll do the same.
But if I should fail I have no one,
only myself to blame.

I have found this very helpful in my journey, shared with me by an earth angel.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
