Taking A Walk Down Nostalgia Avenue

Oh yes what is the quickest way there? Well through song and music! Ahhhh and it just occurred to me how time flies! I mean I have fond memories of songs that go back 60 years way before I was even born. Songs such as Danny Boy, In the Good old Summertime, Goodnight Irene, By the Light of the Silvery moon, Meet Me In St Louis and so on……back then songs were like poetry set to music! Then there were the broadway musicals, like Annie Get Your Gun, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, South Pacific, There’s No Business Like Show Business, Hello Dolly, Fiddler On The Roof, Yentil, The King And I, and so many more…..gosh I miss watching the dance moves of Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and so on! Oh I remember Danny Kaye and Jerry Lewis…..hmmm how could I forget the Minstrels!

Fond memories of the 50s and 60s, well at least vicarious ones….hee hee! Just loved the crooners, giants like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and Jim Reeves…..hmmm I know I must be forgetting a few others. 1. “Time flies.” What a statement! It does fly and before you know it, 20 years has passed. You look at old pictures of yourself and can’t believe you were once that thin, that goodlooking. When you look at the artists who performed those songs (if they are still living) it seems like only yesterday, they were young and beautiful. Funny, you didn’t think they’d ever grown old…or die.

Doris Day, the only female movie star who had a full-time recording career and was consistently on the charts. Sitting in the dark of elegant movie palaces watching her grace the screen and then listening to her on the radio was comforting.

Nat “King” Cole, Perry Como (with his sometimes corny songs), Patti Page, Jane Morgan, Little Richard and Sam Cooke. Great songs that stuck in your mind…

Today? Junk. Who’ll remember ANY song that comes out in the modern world?

  2. My sentiments exactly! Cheers mate! 😉
