My Travels Part 6

I love the Gold Coast…..yes Gold Coast Australia, in fact I love it so much I went there twice! Maybe deep down I’m a beach bum wannabe as I love the atmosphere of the beach and they have a whole string of beaches all connected.

When we were first arrived at Brisbane Airport we were fortunate enough to picked up by a distant cousin Anne Marie and her husband Johnny who drove us all the way to our service apartment at Coolangatta which is the other end of Gold Coast. We stopped over their lovely home for refreshments then made our way first to the Sunshine coast. It was indeed a beautiful scenic drive. We had tea and some chow at Hog’s Breath Cafe in Port Douglas where I remember enjoying a huge portion of the hickory smoked prime rib before finally reaching our apartment.

Dreamworld and Movie World were fun! The most memorable rides were The Giant Drop, Tower of Terror and Lethal Weapon. Took lots of lovely pictures including some with Batman, Robin and Cat Woman at Gotham City Hall, Elmer Fudd and the cast of Police Academy.

The Paradise Country Farm Tour was interesting. There were lots of activities which reflect the Australian bush culture including koala cuddling, boomerang throwing and whip cracking demonstrations, sheep dog mustering and stock horse roundup, and billy tea and damper around the camp fire. Oops nearly forgot the sheep shearing demonstration and feeding of the Kangaroos.

One amazing dinner experience was at Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant where you would have to take a spooky Ghost Train ride into the restaurant itself for a three course dinner followed by some pre-show entertainment and a two hour comedy show. The casts were a fun loving bunch and just loved to camwhore with us.

The breath taking view from Mount Tamborine made the trip up there extra special. The nature walks and waterfalls were amazing. But what I remember most was buying some fabulous tasting wines from the Mount Tamborine Estate Vineyard, the art galleries, some beautiful cottages like the Polish Place, the Fudge shop and German Cuckoo Clock Nest which featured some amazing Cuckoo clocks. Oh man nearly forgot the feeding of the Rainbow Lorikeet…Yikes! just remembered how almost 30 of them came swooping down on me trying to feed out of my hands.

We even had a go at whale watching at Moreton Bay, can’t exactly say the experience was good as I was feeling seasick most of the time. Didn’t help matters when an infant threw up beside me! But it was still an experience…….but sadly on the day we went this was about all the whale we saw….sheesh!

Below is what we expected to see….

We did lots of other stuff, like shopping at flea markets, the duck tour way before it made it’s way here in Singapore and even took a train down to Brisbane where we did our own city tour. Oh yeah I even had highlights done which had gold streaks in my hair!

If I ever make my way back there, I’m going for the hot air balloon & Champagne tour! Woo Hoo!
