Movie – Vantage Point

Synopsis: In Columbia Pictures’ action-packed thriller Vantage Point, eight strangers with eight different points of view try to unlock the one truth behind an assassination attempt on the president of the United States.

Starring: Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Forest Whitaker, Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt

Runtime 86-89 minutes

Why did I bold the runtime? Well that was my initial concern before watching the movie, as I questioned how far such a story go in such a short time? That is the problem this pseudo-political action thriller faced, there was very little room for the politics behind it to shine forth nor could the politics behind the story be expanded to make an intellectual difference since it was written that way.  Also as a result, the stellar cast could not shine as much as they normally would in their roles.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely enjoyed the movie because of it’s refreshingly new take on how we are able to make sense of an otherwise chaotic situation through the different vantage points.  The interwoven connections with more or less the same time-line must have been quite a task for the writers, film editors and director to put on film.  Then there is the climatic car chase which is one of the best ever filmed since the ‘The Italian Job’!

Again, go with the right expectations and you won’t be disappointed.
