Movie – Hancock

Starring: Will Smith, Jason Bateman, Charlize Theron, Eddie Marsan

This movie seems to leave me sitting on the fence for a while before falling off.  I liked it for the actors and it’s original storyline of a disgruntled man with Super hero abilities and amnesia.  However the plot gets weaker and weaker as the story builds up towards the end.  In fact the closer you get to discovering the truth about Hancock the less entertaining or credible it becomes.  Even the ‘super villian’ is a super joke, it’s like they just ran out of ideas towards the end, and the bad guy just happens to show up when our superhero is most vulnerable.

Then there is that element of dark humour throughout the movie which can be relatively funny but I just feel that Will Smith was a mis-cast.  He is a great actor don’t get me wrong, I just felt that Chris Tucker or even Chris Rock would have been better suited for this role.  Charlize Theron is still HOT! as ever ahhh…..I remember when I first saw her as Helga in 2 Days in the valley followed by Devils Advocate!  As for character depth in this one, well the script just wasn’t written that way for her.  Oh and this is definitely NOT a ‘Family Kinda’ movie where you’d want to bring your kids.

The sound and super effects were adequately good and I suppose Peter Berg (director) did all he could do with what he was given.  Funny how there seems to be subtle similarities with this movie and ‘The Kingdom’, I mean in both movies the male leads were great black actors with backgrounds in comedy, both female leads are babes with great acting abilities, both had Jason Bateman in them with Peter Berg as director and lastly the special effects involved lots of bullets spraying and collateral damage! 😆
