Primate For Lunch?

The closest thing next to man and yet in some parts of the world they are hunted for their meat.  If it was a matter of survival in the jungle and there was absolutely nothing else to eat, it would be hard but at least I could understand. However in some parts of West Africa, they are huntered and eaten merely as a declicacy!

This picture from the National Geographic Magazine still haunts me……..( looks like a four year old child )

Shoppers spend over $200 for a large male drill at the Malabo market, paying extra to have the fur singed off on-site. Chicken and other protein sources are readily available, and far cheaper than bush meat.

  1. argh!!!!!!!!!

faint.. that shot is gonna be stuck in my mind for awhile

  2. Well hopefully the authorities will do more to stop the killing!

  3. If the buying stops, the killing can too. Sighs…

  4. Sounds like an ad for save the tigers and other wildlife, the thing is why would the buying stop if there are no heavy penalites or law enforcement?

It’s like saying stop paying for foie gras so that the inhumane force feeding of the goose/duck can be stopped…. *sighs*

  5. it’s a matter of re-education.. on a huge-ass scale! even that won’t guarantee that the buying stops. 😦

  6. Just out of curiousity….what if someone were to ask you if you’d like to try a small piece just to see what it tasted like? Not that they would kill any on the spot but they had already killed and cooked one?

  7. I wouldnt…

If you can’t be part of the solution, don’t be part of the problem.

  8. Ha ha…you should run for office mate! Such politically correct answers……………..just kidding!

    cheers
    😉
