Movie – Outlander

Starring: James Caviezel, Sophia Myles, Jack Huston, Ron Perlman
Director: Howard McCain

Sypnosis :  During the reign of the Vikings, Kainan (Caviezel), a man from a far-off world, crash lands on Earth, bringing with him an alien predator known as the Moorwen. Though both man and monster are seeking revenge for violence committed against them, Kainan leads the alliance to kill the Moorwen by fusing his advanced technology with the Viking’s Iron Age weaponry.

Well I was going to watch ‘The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button’ but chose ‘Outlander’ instead because I wanted an out of this world distraction.  Boy did I get my money’s worth!  Can you imagine watching Alien/Predator, 13th Warrior, Beowulf, Pathfinder all rolled into one and is not even a comedy but rather a sci-fi meets action drama movie? Well this movie isn’t for everyone, especially those who crave either pure action, pure drama or simply one of the generic genres.

I on the otherhand rather enjoyed this rather odd ‘blended’ movie, after all every once in a while it is good to watch something totally new and which stretches once imagination.  So in short my advice is leave your mindset at the door and you’ll certainly be entertained.

  1. my comment contains spoilers, people.

julian i super didn’t like the ending man. freya should’ve died. wulfric should’ve lived to be king. kainan should’ve died too, instead of becoming king. after all it was his fault that the moorwen came to earth in the first place. bah! where’s the justice?!! haha…

    • Why you want to kill a sweet thing like Freya? Besides it makes sense that the creature didn’t kill her right away cos we see the other chap too eaten slowly. Wulfric needed more time to gain the wisdom of being a great king, he was just not ready. As for Kainan had he not destroyed the homing device then his superiors might have done the same thing to earth i.e. take over the lands. Also looking at the remainder of their people, no one else had what it takes to lead and care for the people the way the way he could besides he probably felt that it was his reponsibility to do so. Besides how can you blame him? when all he wanted to do was bring the bodies back for burial as it is their custom to do so. How could he have known that the Moorwen would sneak on board?
      😉

  2. oh ya curious case of benjamin button was a nice show… it’s different. quite long though, more than 2 and a half hours i think. but nice la, you should watch it.

    • Well still contemplating whether to watch it at the Cinema or wait for the DVD and watch it in the comfort of home… 🙂

  3. i say it’s his fault because the moorwens weren’t hurting anyone, but kainan and his men killed almost all of them, just to take their land. if kainan hadn’t killed that moorwen’s family in the first place, it wouldn’t have followed him to earth for revenge! and what does he get for killing an entire species, he becomes king. aiyoh!

    • He was just following orders, whether he wanted to or not is another story. And it was not his choice to be King but rather he was requested to lead…. 😉
