Talk about Murphy’s Law!!!!!

Wonder what else is going to breakdown……

First my home water filtration system breaks down, they changed the adaptor plug and reminded me that the filters were due for a change. That cost me $318! Then the pump started giving problems and it was another $193!

Now my PC monitor is showing signs of a breakdown! I have to hit it a few times before it comes on!!!

Sheesh! What next????

As The Year 2007 Comes To An End

It has been a roller coaster ride for me all throughout the year! The high and the lows, the twists and turns well how very interesting a year it has been.

I got promoted, and with it came tons of work and assignments. I found and lost a mate (slmy), well not unexpected but will still cherish the memories. Oh and how can I forget, forging new friendships with the 30s crowd which always bring a smile.

The Vertical Marathon, the company off-site, the brisk walk, the dance classes and a whole lot of adventures I blogged about throughout the year!

Oh and in case you were wondering, I had to buy a new phone cos if you didn’t read the update they wanted $274 for the repairs. And Yes I’m still recovering from a severe chest congestion.

*peers into font of the future* Well I wonder what 2008 will bring?

Well all I can say is, “BRING IT ON!”.

and……

It’s not just the dawn of a new day,

It’s a whole new beginning…..

Of new hopes and dreams to achieve,

and to live every moment with love and peace…..

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Lunch At Botak Jones Woodgrove,Lucky Prata & More…

I must say we were pleasantly surprise at the wonderful service accorded to us by the staff of Botak Jones Woodgrove.  You see I had ordered lunch and two Oreo Cheesecakes for desert to be served later.  However midway through lunch, we were told that they had run out of Oreo Cheesecakes and requested to know if they could substitute them with other flavours.  We declined their offer as we were were already full, besides we were looking forward to the Oreo Cheesecakes only.  Then at the end of our meal they served us complimentary cheesecakes! Mango & Chocolate flavoured.  They manage to Wow! us.

Why are we waiting ? Why? Why? Why?

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes;
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray;
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And fit us for Heaven to live with Thee there.

Tech. Woes And My Sick Phone

According to Murphy’s Law “Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong!”

First I got a letter from Starhub stating that I will have to upgrade my cable Set-Top box to Digital from Analogue if I want to continue watching the Kid’s Disney Chanel.

Then yesterday my Sony-Ericsson phone which had served me well for a whole year and two months started having problems. I could not get the camera function to work and a thick line magically appeared on my menu option. Powering it off and on didn’t work neither did a full master reset.

Well I decided to kill two birds with one stone and set off first to Plaza Singapura to get the Set-Top box exchanged. To think that I was in the exact same area yesterday evening *sighs* It was a one and a half hour wait before I could finally settle that.

Then went all the way down to Wisma Atria to the Sony-Ericsson service centre to find that I had to wait at least two hours minimum. My queue number was 0200 and the current queue at that time was showing 0132! They took the phone in for servicing and said they would call me back two days later with a quotation for the repairs as my warranty had expired in Oct. Took my Sim Card which they returned to me and placed it in my spare phone to find that I could not unlock my Sim Card because the ‘1’ on the spare phone was not working and so I could not enter the full Pin!! What other choice did I have?? Wait maybe a week without a phone or buy a new spare phone?

Rushed back home to pick my son up from school and then tried to install the new digital box. Gees it took me about half an hour to figure it out and to get it working! Well I must say the features that comes bundled with it is worth all the effort.

Oh well……so I’m a little exhausted and a little poorer…..Life still goes on……

*Update As at 23rd Dec 2007 1900hrs* They called and quoted me $274 for repairs i.e. to replace the LCD Screen and some connector! Bah! Humbug! Well looks like it’s shopping for a new one……*sniff*

Kublai Khan Meets Hoomiko

Well not exactly….it was just another fun filled evening with the 30s crowd. I met up with Eileen early for coffee at Dhoby Xchange, in a place called Just Acia. As I was feeling a little peckish, I ordered some steamed dumplings and a spinach Toufu. And washed them down with a latte, I was surprised to learn that this $2.95 drink could be refilled at a self service kiosk. Also it was a real treat to receive a small gift from them.

Steamed Dumplings

We then made our way to ParkMall to meet the rest of the guys for dinner at the Kublai Khan Mongolian Restaurant. As we were still early we decided to freshen up and browse at some furniture which majority of the stores there carry. Came across this cute signage….

The entrance of the restaurant reminded me of some sleazy massage parlour, but the dining area itself was normal, clean and nice. Our dinner reservation was for 12 pax at 7 pm however we were made to wait almost 45mins because the whole restaurant was booked by some Japanese Secondary School which apparently arrived there late, hence our long wait. So we chatted, joked and laughed while we sipped on our soft drinks which were served to appease us.

Well for $35 nett a head the food selection was quite good, I’ll list just some of the more expensive items. Shashimi, Oysters, Prawns, Crabs and Sharkfin soup. I particularly liked the mushroom soup and Teppanyaki.

Mantou, Chilli Crab, Shashimi, Honey Chicken, Shishamo, Tuna,

grilled fish and Wasabi

Mussels, Sea Cucumber and lord knows what else….

My pastry covered creamy mushroom soup!

More Chilli Crab and Buttered Prawns

Teppanyaki Chef and his 360 frying technique

Sure looks to me like some Shaolin Cooking Appartus…

The end product…my very own selection of beef, pork,

bean sprouts, spring onions, onions, mushrooms and fresh cut chilli.

Boy can he eat!

I have a nice big smile cos I have 14 yrs more before I turn 30 hee hee

Take this pic and you’re dead!

Ha ha you’re not getting any juices on me!!

Well we all sure had lots of fun! But six of us wanted a little more, and if you have figured it out by now….well Hoomiko isn’t the name of one of the Japanese Students but a Karaoke pub! With Fosters Beer on Tap! Woo hoo!

After a wild night of dancing, singing and 5-6 jugs of beer for the guys it was time to head on home. Damn I wish I went to the restroom before I got in the cab…..it was a painful experience all the way home! *chuckles*

Alvin & The Chipmunks

Wow it’s amazing how the singing trio of chipmunks can thrill now three generations of kids and adults alike. I remember my parents buying us the CD ‘A Chipmunk Christmas’ erm…..or was it a cassette back then? Oh well, we simply adored their renditions especially their very own ‘The Chipmunk Song’ (Christmas don’t be late). And I didn’t know this but their fame started way back in 1958!

This movie is up to date and they are still as adorable as ever. I would say it’s a nice holiday treat for the whole family. Kids will enjoy it and Adults, well just don’t watch it with any expectations. Instead just sit back and enjoy this no-brainer movie.

Day Trip To Aeon Tebrau City Shopping Mall

Wanted to try out shopping (Christmas Shopping that is) at the new Aeon Tebrau City Shopping mall aka Jusco! in Johor Bahru….erm okay so it’s not that ‘New’ any longer since it had opened it’s doors in early 2006. We took a cab there which cost us RM20 for an approximately 6-7km ride. It seems you don’t have a choice to request for a metered fare which would probably have cost about RM14. We arrived at the shopping mall at about 1130am to find that it was a huge and gradual U-shaped building. The shops inside I would say is comparable with those found in Vivio City in Singapore.

Feeling a little peckish, we stopped over at Old Town Kopi Tiam where I had a hazelnut coffee, a set of Kaya Toast, Peanut butter toast and half boiled eggs. Frances had a regular Old Town coffee, eggs and garlic toast. I dare say the coffee and food was better than Ya Kun and Killiney Kopi Tiam.

After four hours of shopping, just after the expert gift wrapper from Toys R Us finished with the last present for our kids we decided to have lunch. After scanning the whole array of food choices we decided on East Court for Tim Sum and roast selection sets. Didn’t take pics of all the food we had cos it would have made us look like a pair of gluttons *chuckles*

Chicken and Roast Duck Rice

Chee Cheong Fun with Char Siew

Fried Prawn Dumpling ( Two already eaten)

The Interior of East Court ( Forgot to take the Entrance Pic)

After another 3hrs of shopping we decided to head on to CitiSquare shopping mall for coffee and cake at Secret Recipe. Unfortunately they were closed for their Annual Dinner and Dance so went to Coffee Bean instead. After a German Cheescake, Carrot Cake, Cappuccino and Latte it was more shopping! Boy was I pooped!

Finally at the Causeway all tuckered out, we met a Chinese driver who offered to drive us home to our doorstep for $15 of which we wholeheartedly agreed.

Next trip there I’m going to try taking the Causeway link bus 9B (outside Public Bank) to Aeon Tebrau City Shopping mall. I hear it’s only Rm 2.00 though it’s not very regular and most likely a 20 minute wait.
